Born in Dublin in 1960 to sculptors Gerda Fromel and Werner Schurmann.
After finishing his goldsmith training in Germany Moritz returned back to Dublin to establish a Jewellery workshop.
Moritz with Úna O’Dwyer and their young family relocated to Lismore, Co. Waterford in 2008.
There they set up a jewellery design studio producing unique, handmade pieces of fine jewellery made specific to order. Moritz has worked with a wide range of materials not only precious metals (gold, platinum) and gemstones, but also with alternative materials such as rough raw diamonds, acrylic, etc.
Moritz now in Lismore Goldsmith designs and makes fine jewellery ,engagement rings on commission ,contemporary jewellery for stock and in-between all that he fixes some almost totally damaged pieces.
Moritz also has a few very popular collections that are for sale in the shop, and not forgetting the Treasurering, a very successful christening gift that he designed and has been making since 1997.
And last but not least The Lismore Whistle which was designed by Moritz 2021 and used in the Vodafone Christmas commercial 2021.(“it was great fun to make and it whistles at 800Hz”).
