It is a study in precision: every angle is measured, every gemstone is set to balance, and every second is accounted for. It is the Dodecagon, the first watch design of lifelong jeweller and goldsmith Moritz Schurmann.
Wearing the Dodecagon, centuries of Irish goldsmithing and Swiss horology come together on your wrist, where the finest Sellita SW300 skeleton movement is enframed by a twelve-sided case of titanium and 18 carat gold, studded with sapphires and diamonds. Nothing is left to chance with this striking, industrial design, nor is anything hidden away: the sapphire crystal presents the inner workings of the watch directly, so that the Dodecagon tells the time with precision, and shows it with clarity.
the Dodecagon’s design began twenty-five years ago, when Moritz crafted a band of two twelve-sided silver rings held a short distance apart by twelve gold bars. Today, this ring design, modified, becomes the display-case for the watch mechanism: with its open front and back, the Dodecagon allows its wearer to see time at work from every angle. Prior to his career as a goldsmith, Moritz trained as an engineer. In the Dodecagon, these two crafts and dispensations work together, where the sophistication and elegance of bespoke jewellery meets the economy and function of the machine.
We live today in a decimal world, a ‘base-10’ world. But the duodecimal, or ‘base- 12,’ system is favoured still by craftspeople – for its greater practicality, for its natural ease of calculation. And, of course, it lives on in many aspects of our everyday lives: the twelve houses of the Zodiac, the twelve hours of the day, and, for its owner, the twelve sides of the Dodecagon, where style is function, and function is style.

Staidéar cruinnis atá ann: gach uillinn tomhaiste, gach geamchloch suite go cothrom, agus gach soicind áirithe. Is é seo an Dodecagon, an chéad dearadh uaireadóra ón seodóir agus ón ngabha buí Moritz Schurmann.
Nuair a chuireann tú an Dodecagon ar chaol do láimhe tagann na céadta bliain de ghaibhneacht óir na hÉireann agus d’uaireolaíocht na hEilvéise le chéile, le creatlach Sellita SW300 den scoth frámaithe i gcás tiotáiniaim agus óir 18 gcarat le dhá shlios déag, breactha le saifírí agus diamaint. Níl aon rud fágtha ar lár sa dearadh suntasach tionclaíoch seo, ná níl aon rud faoi cheilt: tá oibreacha inmheánacha an uaireadóra le feiceáil go hiomlán tríd an gcriostal saifíre: insíonn an Dodecagon an t-am go cruinn, agus taispeánann sé é soiléir.
Cuireadh tús le dearadh an Dodecagon cúig bliana is fiche ó shin, nuair a rinne Moritz banda de dhá fháinne le dhá shlios déag, iad scartha beagán óna chéile le dhá bharra déag d’ór. Inniu tá an cás taispeántais do mheicníocht an uaireadóra déanta de dhearadh mionathraithe an fháinne seo: oscailte chun tosaigh agus ar gcúl ionas gur féidir leis an té a chaitheann é an t-am a fheiceáil ag obair ó gach taobh. Fuair Moritz oiliúint mar innealtóir sular thug sé faoina ghairm mar ghabha buí. Tá an dá cheird seo ag obair le chéile sa Dodecagon agus sofaisticiúlacht agus maorgacht an tseodra saincheaptha fite fuaite le tíos agus feidhm an innill.
Mairimid i saol deachúlach nó i saol ‘bonn-10’ inniu. Ach fós is fearr le ceardaithe an córas dódheachúlach nó ‘bonn-12’ – mar go bhfuil sé níos praiticiúla agus gur féidir ríomh níos éasca leis. Agus ar ndóigh maireann an córas seo i ngach gné dár saol laethúil: dhá theach déag an Stoidiaca, dhá uair déag an lae, agus don té ar leis é, dhá thaobh déag an Dodecagon, mar a bhfuil an stíl ina fheidhm, agus an fheidhm ina stíl.
